6 New Year's Resolutions for Book Lovers

1. Finish your TBR pile

We are all guilty of it... the lonely books sitting there, waiting to be opened. Read a portion of the ones on your shelf at home. My one shelf turned into three shelves in 2017 alone! There are many incredible stories, so limit yourself to the ones you really REALLY want to read. You will feel less guilty... I hope I will.

2. Introduce a non-reader to the joy of stories

J.K. Rowling said it best, “If you don’t like to read, you haven’t found the right book.” Help someone find a story they love.

3. Read more classics

Has there been a time when everyone’s discussing a classic novel you haven’t read but were too embarrassed to say so? (I have!) Pick up a novel by Jane Austen, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Louis Stevenson, and more! Or pick up a classic you haven’t read in a while. They are always worth rereading.

4. Try a new genre

Haven’t picked up a mystery novel since Nancy Drew? Maybe it’s time to try it again. Don’t read the same genres over and over, expand your horizons with new genres!

5. Ask for Recommendations

Your friends know you, and if they love books as much as you do, they may introduce you to something you wouldn’t pick out for yourself. Give their opinions a chance and trust their judgment. It may surprise you!

6. Give writing a chance

Enter a writing contest or a poetry slam. Try writing that novel you’ve had in your head for months but are too scared to get it down on paper. You don’t always have to be a reader to be a book lover. That’s how some of the greatest authors came into their own. Why not see if you are one of them?

What are your bookish new year’s resolutions?
